Microsoft Internet Mail

Follow the instructions below to set up your mailbox in Microsoft Internet Mail (you may want to print out these instructions to refer to):

  1. On the Microsoft Internet Explorer menu bar, click View -> Options.

  2. Select the Programs tab.

  3. From the Mail drop-down list, select Internet Mail and then click OK.

  4. On the menu bar, click Mail -> Read Mail.

  5. If you are using the Internet Explorer email reader for the first time, the Mail wizard displays. If you have used your email before, click Mail -> Options when the email reader window displays. Then, click the Server tab and enter the settings that are explained in the wizard instructions below.

    • Click Next to continue in the wizard.

    • Enter your Name and Email Address and click Next.

    • Enter the following settings, and then click Next:
      • Incoming Mail (POP3) Server: (given to you during registration)
      • Outgoing Mail (SMTP) Server:

    • Select Logon using, and then click Next. Enter your Account Name and Password.

    • Select a Connection type. If you dial-in to Telkom from home with a modem, select I use a modem to access my email (if you select this option, select Telkom from the drop-down list). Then, click Next.
      Click Finish.


    When you are finished with the wizard setup, Microsoft Internet Explorer will automatically open your mailbox. To check your mailbox and to send email:

    1. If you have any email in your mailbox, it will display in the window. To read an email message, click the message.

    2. To send an email message, click the New Message button.

    3. To send an email message to someone, you need to know their email address. Enter the email address in the To field. If you want, you can enter a subject for the message in the Subject field.

    4. Type your message and click File -> Send Message.

    5. Then click on Tools and choose Send and Receive.
